2020 Harry Hart Memorial Senior Scholarships Awarded

The Harry Hart Memorial Scholarships are named in honor of long-time KAEA member Harry Hart who passed away in 2009.  The Kansas Art Education Association gives TWO $500.00 scholarships each year which are paid directly to the Institutes of Higher Learning chosen by the winning student.

The 2020 winners are Wesley Schmoe, student of Tod Poteet of Lawrence High School, and Erica Hoelting, student of Tim Mispagel of De Soto High School!

The judge this year was Dr. Monika Kjellman-Chapin. Monika was impressed by all of the portfolios and commented that:
-has at least one stand out work, a really terrific piece
-there was some very interesting content
-some very good draftspersonship was demonstrated
-there was a boldness in the subject matter displayed and often a maturity in the handling
-there was an impressive range of techniques and media
-“all in all, there is very promising talent on display here”

Congratulations to the scholarship recipients! The winners’ work will be on display at the Youth Art Month celebration March 22nd as well as a slideshow of all of the portfolios submitted.
